LYMINGTON REGATTA. Saturday, 14th May, 2022.
/There were mixed results for Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club’s crew and scullers at the first Hants & Dorset Amateur Rowing Association Regatta on the season staged at Milford-on-Sea and hosted by Lymington Rowing Club on Saturday (14th May, 2022).
The Men’s Coastal Junior Four of - Tom Jacques, Joel Smith, Austin Smith, Matt Chambers, and Coxed by Bryony Reeve were leading their final at the turning mark but unfortunately they missed the buoy turn and were disqualified.
However both of the Men’s Novice Fours – the A Crew of - Bradley Whiting, Elliott O’Sullivan, Will Hall, Paddy Kearney with Mai MacKay coxing – and the B Crew of Isaac Gibson, Dan Sanderson, Yogi Ashworth, Lars Groothuis and Graham Reeve coxing both qualified for the final – each finishing in 3rd place in their respective heats. In the final the A Crew rowed well to finish in 2nd place – hopefully meaning that promotion to Coastal Junior status is not far away – and the B Crew acquitted themselves well to finish in 6th place. The “B” crew then went on to compete in the Boys J16 Coxed fours event where they finished in 4th place.
The Ladies Novice Four of Hanna Lake, Freya Drage, Chloe Hughes, Niamh Murphy with Mai MacKay coxing once again – in their first competitive race together – but finished well down the field in their final.
The Ryde Men’s Coastal Junior Pair crew of Ben Sanderson and Joel Smith raced well to finish in 3rd place in their final – and Ben Sanderson then competed in the Men’s Novice Sculls event where he was well placed at the turn in his heat but fell back on the return leg to finish 4th, just missing out on a place in the final.
In the Ladies Novice Sculls final Niamh Murphy finished in 6th place.
