SWANAGE REGATTA. Saturday, 11h June, 2022.

Ryde Rowing Club, sponsored by Wightlink IW Ferries, competed at Swanage Regatta last Saturday (11th June, 2022) – and after the abandonment of Ryde Regatta the previous Saturday due to the conditions it was a very different story as in spite of the forecast it was a sunny, warm day with a South Westerly wind which made the course race able but a little choppy by the buoys.

Due to Exams and injury the Ryde Club had a smaller than usual squad but they acquitted themselves well on the day.

The Highlight of the day for Ryde was an excellent race by their young Men’s Novice Four Crew of Dan Sanderson, Harry Jones, Lars Groothuis and Issac Gibson with a Coxswain on loan from Poole. After easily negotiating their heat they set off in the final hoping for a good showing. At the buoys a 3rd place looked encouraging but after a strong row back were held off by a good Coalporters crew by about 1 length to finish an excellent 2nd.

The Ryde Clubs Junior Crew of Paddy Kearney, Will Hall, Bradley Whiting and Ben Sanderson again coxed by the Poole Coxswain, in a crew changed due to injury came 4th in a close race. Ben also competed in the Novice sculls race and had his best result of the season so far finishing 3rd in his heat just missing out on the final.

The Club also had a J16 Coxed Four of Dan Sanderson, Bradley Whiting, Lars Groothuis and Issac Gibson and using the Poole Coxswain once again finished in a creditable 3rd place.

Our final entry was Will Hunt and Paddy Kearney in the Men’s Coastal Junior Pairs. They again had an impressive performance finishing a close 4th in only their 2nd race in the event.
