There were no wins for Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club at Lymington Rowing Clubs Regatta on Saturday (28th May) but the Club produced a good set of result which bodes well for the rest of the season. Had they had the luck of the draw on their side – on the Milford-on-Sea based regatta course – which clearly favored the inside crew they may well have achieved even better results.
The best performance of the day probably came from the young Novice Single Sculler – Joel Smith – who finished 2nd in his race – before teaming up with James Smith to race in Coastal Junior Pair – where an incident at the turn led to their disqualification.
There was also fine performance from the newly promoted Ladies Coastal Junior Fours crew of - Kristy Newman, Lisa Murphy, Ayesha Russell and Catherine Murphy with Mick Jenner coxing - who finished 2nd in their final – in only their 2nd race at this status.
There was also a 2nd place in the final for the Men’s Novice Four of Dom Douglas, Jacob Redstone, Ben Toms, Joe Groves and Cox Dale Buckett – and a surprisingly good performance from the Men’s Senior Four of Joe Evans-Murry, Henry Gove, Ollie Gove and Adam Edwards, coxed by Becky Nigh who also finished in 2nd place and may yet mount a challenge at this level.
The Ladies Novice Four of Abi Locke, Julie Cole, Karen Crook and Kate Whitehurst with Allen Evans coxing raced well to secure a place in the final but will be disappointed with their 4th place finish.
Dame Buckett raced well to secure a 3rd place in the Men’s coastal Junior Sculls but Joe Evans-Murry had a more difficult time finishing in 5th place in the Men’s Senior Sculls event.
