Ryde R. C. Christchurch Head of the Stour, Sunday, 12th March, 2017

Ryde R. C. Christchurch Head of the Stour, Sunday, 12th March, 2017.

There was a mixed set of results for the Wightlink Sponsored Ryde Rowing Club in their first competitive outing of the season – at the Christchurch Head of the Stour – a two mile timed event, raced over two divisions and staged last Sunday (12th March).

The Club’s best result came in the first Division from the Ladies Coastal Junior Four of Emily Pike, Kate Whitehurst, Courtney Edmonds and Catherine Murphy, coxed by Coach Micky Jenner who not only won their status event but were also produced the fastest time of any Coastal Ladies Four on the day beating the times of the Ladies Senior Coastal Fours. The Clubs 2nd Ladies Junior Coastal Four of Abi Locke, Julie Cole, Lisa Murphy and Becca Nigh – making her competitive debut rowing for the Club – with their Coach Allan Evans coxing – finished in 5th place in this event.

Also racing in this Division was a Men’s IM3 coxed four of Dom Douglas, Joe Groves, Ben Toms and Joel Smith with young cox Dan Sanderson who performed particularly well in his first race at this level – as they finished in 2nd place in their status. The Club also had a Men’s Novice Coastal sculler – James smith – racing in this division who finished in 6th place and a very young Men’s Novice Four of Josh Lee, Austin Smith, Tom Starkey, Ben Sanderson and cox Eirann McLlumpha who finished twelfth in a strong field.

In the 2nd division two of the successful coastal Junior Ladies Four – Kate Whitehurst and Courtney Edmonds raced in a Ladies Coastal Junior coxless pair – securing another first place for the Club and there was second place in his event for Men’s IM3 River Sculler – Dale Buckett and a 4th place for Men’s Novice Sculler Joel Smith.

Also racing in this division was a Men’s Coastal Junior Four of Jacob Redstone, Joe Groves, Ben Toms and Dom Douglas with Becca Nigh coxing who will be a little disappointed with their 8th place and the Ladies IM3 Coxed Four of Julie Cole, Abi Locke and Lisa and Catherine Murphy with young Dan Sanderson coxing once again who finished in 3rd place.

Ryde R. C. Presentation to IW Youth Trust.

Sponsors, supporters and helpers of Ryde Rowing Club were entertained at an informal gathering at their Clubhouse on Friday evening (27th January) to thank them for their support during the last year. In addition to the Club's main sponsors Wightlink, Main Regatta Sponsors Carisbrooke Shipping, the event sponsors at the Regatta and all those who had supported and helped the Club during the last year - a special mention was made of those who had supported the Clubs major fund raising project for the year - to secure a replacement Minibus Bus - which was on show. A special thank you was made to those who had supported this project - Spinlock, Churchers Bolitho Way, Sydenhams, the Horse and Groom and TLM Laser - who are also the Club Regatta's new main sponsors.

After a welcome and thanks from Club Captain Peter Allsopp, and a short presentation on the clubs activities and successes in 2016 - which included winning the Hants & Dorset ARA Men's Novice Sculls Championship's and a share in the Ladies Novice Fours Championships - and two crews - a Men's and Ladies Coastal Junior Fours being selected to represent their Association at the South Coast Rowing Championships - a presentation was made to Felicity Radak, a Fundraiser with the Isle of Wight Youth Trust, who - working in conjunction with Wightlink - were the Clubs nominated charity, once again in 2016 .

Following various fund raising activities -  the club was able to hand over another cheque for £500 to the Isle of Wight Youth Trust, matching the donation made last year. Ryde R. C. Hants & Dorset Championship Regatta announces New Main Sponsor

Ryde R. C. Hants & Dorset Championship Regatta announces New Main Sponsor.

Since 2012 the Cowes based shipping company Carisbrooke Shipping have been the main sponsors of the Club’s Annual Hants & Dorset ARA Championship Regatta and during this period and before they also made generous donations to the Club to help purchase much needed equipment. Sadly Carisbrooke Shipping have advised us that they are unable to continue as the Regatta’s main sponsor for the 2017 Regatta – although the strong relationship between the Club and the company remains in place – and the Club would like to acknowledge and thank Carisbrooke Shipping – and in particular Robert Wester and Ian Walker – for their support of the Club over many years which has undoubtedly contributed to the Clubs development and success and to establish the Ryde R. C. Regatta as one of the most successful and popular in the Association.

The Club is also delighted to announce that TLM Laser, the Laser marking and engraving machines and systems company has agreed to take over as the Regatta’s main sponsor.
