Three section wins for Ryde Rowing Club at BTC Spring Head of the River Race, 11th March, 2023.
Ryde Rowing Club, competed in the BTC Southampton’ s Spring Head of the River Race, over a 5000 metre course on the River Itchen, Southampton, in two divisions for a range of boat types and statuses for both men and women on Saturday (11th March 2023).
The Wightlink sponsored Club had two fours racing in the first division – a Men’s Coastal Junior Four of Bradley Whiting, Ben Sanderson, Will Hall, Paddy Kearney with cox Mai McKay who had an impressive row to win their status in a time of 18:51. They also had a Men’s Coastal Novice Four of Dan Sanderson, Isaac Gibson, Charlie Watts and Lars Groothius with Joe Bird coxing who rowed well to finish 2nd in their status in a time of 20:21.
In Division 2 the Club had a Mens Novice Men’s Four, racing in the river boat section, of Matt Groothuis, Isaac Gibson, Charlie Watts, Lars Groothuis with Mai McKay Coxing once again who also won their section in a time of 20:37, which was all the more impressive as they were racing in a slower coastal four. The Club also had three Men's Novice Coastal Scullers competing – Ben and Dan Sanderson and Bradley Whiting. Ben had a very impressive race winning the section in a time of 20.49 with his brother Dan finishing in 5th place in a time of 20:43. Unfortunately the 3rd Ryde Sculler – Bradley Whiting had to withdraw from the race after a technical issue.
