Junior crews from the Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club competed in the Itchen Imperial Rowing Clubs Junior Regatta on Saturday (28th September 2024) over a short 450 metre course on the River Itchen, Southampton. Racing was mainly in River boats, over the straight course with no racing turn for various categories and boat types for Boys and Girls from fourteen to sixteen years.
First afloat for Ryde was Isaac Gibson in the Boys J16 River Sculls for Novices who finished 2nd in his final.
Next afloat for the Club was Lottie Pettitt racing in the Girls J16 Sculls – who finished first in her heat and 3rd in the Final.
Ryde’s youngest crew – the Boys J14 River Double of Max Locke and Joe Bird were impeded in their race leading to a disqualification and a re-row where the young Ryde Crew finished in 2nd place.
Next It was the turn of Charlie Watts to compete in the Boys J16 Single Sculls where he finished 1st in his heat and went on to win the final relatively comfortably.
The Club had two crews in the Boys J16 River Double – the Clubs A Crew of Charlie Watts and Finn Diffey finishing 3rd in the Final which was won by the Clubs B Crew – a composite crew consisting of Newport’s Boris Hare and Ryde’s Isaac Gibson.
The Club's fours crew then took to the water – the Boys River Coxed Quad consisting of Cameron D’Arcy, Max Locke, Isaac Gibson and Joe Bird, stroke, with Harry Watts, coxing who finished 1st in their heat and in the final.
Finally, the Boys J16 Coxed River Four of Fin Diffey, Isaac Gibson, Charlie Watts and Joe Bird, stroke, with Harry Watts coxing once again also finished 1st in their final in a close race
