Coalporters Small Boats and Junior Regatta. Saturday 16th August 2025. (3 boat racing).

Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club took a small group of oarsmen to compete in the Coalporters Rowing Club Small Boats and Junior Events on Saturday 16th August on the River Itchen in Southampton.

Racing in the Open Novice Fours event over a 1500m course with a turn the Ryde “A” crew – Isaac Gibson finished 1st in his heat but could only manage 2nd place in the semifinal being defeated by the eventual winner. The Ryde “B” sculler – Charlie Watts - also finished first in his heat and in his semifinal going on to finish 2nd in the final.

Joe Bird and Max Locke competing in the Boys J16 double scull event over a straight 800m course finished 3rd in their semifinal. They both went on to compete in the Boys J16 Single sculls event over the same course where Max finished 2nd in his semifinal qualifying for the final as the fastest loser where he finished 4th – and Joe Bird won his semifinal and went on to win the final  convincingly.

Ryde Rowing Club crews will now focus on preparation for the South Coast Rowing Championships in Plymouth on the 6th of September where they have two fours’ crews – an Open Junior Senior Four and a Women’s Coastal Junior Four representing their Association, the Hants & Dorset ARA, in the Championship events.
