Swanage Regatta. 4th July 2026.

Due to injury, illness and holidays it was a slightly depleted squad from the Wightlink Sponsored Ryde Rowing Club who competed at Swanage Regatta, Dorset, on Saturday (4th July 2026).

The regatta is staged over a 1500m course, with a racing turn, in Swanage Bay. With no Hants & Dorset ARA Club in Swanage the Regatta is organised by volunteers from nearly all the Associations Clubs with Ryde playing their part by providing all the packed lunches for the Race Officials as well as the Regatta coordinator - Steve Bull, Race Official - Micky Jenner and Club Captain Paddy Kearney who helped man the Safety boats.

The Ryde Clubs Open Novice Fours crew of Lukas Georgiou, Harry Crofts, Max Locke, Cameron D’Arcy with Harry Watts finished 4th in their heat just failing to make the final.

The Boys J16 Coxed Quad of Joe Bird, Harry Watts, Cameron D’Arcy, Max Locke with Mai Read coxing finished 5th in their Final.

There was a stunning performance from Ryde Novice Sculler – Isaac Gibson – who fell foul of the restricted entry system in the small boats at Swanage and lost out on a place in the Open Novice Sculls and the Open Junior Sculls. So, he competed two statues above his status – in the Open Senior Sculls, where he finished in  a very impressive 3rd place.

Ryde’s other Novice Sculler – Charlie Watts – competing in the correct status – finished 1st in his heat and 2nd in his final.

The Ryde’s Women’s Senior Four of Women’s Senior Four. Stella Baisley, Alexis Owen, Fiona Owen, Maggie Sanderson with Ruby Read Coxing finished  5th in their Final.

Due to oarswomen being unavailable the Women’s Master Masters 40 four competed as a Composite crew with Andi Davies from Southsea and Jane Denby-Roach from Shanklin joining Ryde’s Fiona Owen and Maggie Sanderson with Ruby Read coxing and they raced well to finish 3rd in their Final.

Ryde had two Women’s Novice Scullers competing - Stella Baisley finished 5th in her Heat – failing to make the final but Alexis Owen finished 2nd in her heat and 4th in the Final.

Rosie Morris rowed in a Composite Girls J16 4+ quad for Poole, Aby Bird rowed in a Composite Women’s Novice Four for Newport and Ruby Read coxed Poole Open 50 Fours to third place.
