Ryde Rowing Club - sponsored by Wightlink, IW Ferries - competed at the last Hants & Dorset ARA Regatta of the Season, hosted by BTC Southampton Rowing Club over a 1900m course with racing turn, at Wester Shore, Woolston, Southampton.
Hi-light of Ryde’s day came from the Clubs Women’s Novice Four of Clare Gordon, Polley Townson, Anny Bird and Sophia Roberts – on loan from Coalporters Rowing Club - with Mai Read Coxing, who finished first in their Final by several lengths in an excellent row that takes them halfway to Coastal Junior status.
The Women’s Senior Four of Stella Baisley, Alexis Owen, Eva Gordon and Emily Kellerman with Ruby Read coxing raced well to finish 4th in their Final.
In the open Senior Pairs, the Clubs A crew of Charlie Watts and Paddy Kearney finished 7th in their final, just beaten by the Clubs B crew of Isaac Gibson and Max Locke who finished in 6th place.
In the Open Novice Single sculls event the Ryde A Sculler, Charlie Watts finished 2nd in his heat qualifying for the final as did the Club other Novice Sculler Isaac Gibson who won his heat. In the Final Isaac was pipped at the post, losing by just half a canvas, to finish in 2nd place with Charlie in 3rd.
In the Women’s Single sculls event the Ryde Scullers – Alexis Own and Stella Baisley – finished 4th and 6th in their final respectively.
Finally, the Ryde Club competed in the Mixed Arthur Shergold Memorial Race in a Composite crew between Ryde and Newport with Mai Read and Isaac Gibson from Ryde – with two and a cox from Newport – who finished 7th in the Final.
