On Saturday 11th July, eleven members of Wightlink Sponsored Ryde Rowing Club made the long journey to Deal in Kent, to compete in their Annual Regatta – a Coast Rowing Association event – partly as a trial for the South Coast Championship Regatta scheduled to be held in Deal on the 12th of September.
The Club had a really early start – catching the 4.00am Wightlink Car Ferry from Fishbourne in order to get to Deal for the 10.00am start time – only to find when they got there that the conditions had deteriorated so badly that the Regatta was cancelled, without any crews going afloat! So, this was something of a wasted journey although they were able to check out the area and facilities for the September event.
The eleven Ryde members who travelled were Alexis and Fiona Own, Maggie Sanderson, Ruby Read, Abi Locke, Clare and Eva Gordon, Stella Baisley, Miles, Charlie and Harry Watts.
